As Manufacturers Confront RFID Compliance,
One Solution Provider Offers Certified Know-How
Big box retailers and the Department of Defense have laid down
the law for vendors: ship with RFID (radio frequency identification)
tags or don’t ship at all. A Minnesota-based high-tech integrator
specializing in bar code and auto ID systems responds with a bundled
solution that takes the mystery out of this fast-growing technology.
Wayzata, MN – May 8, 2006 - Wireless Network Solutions, Inc.,
a provider of value-added auto ID (automatic identification) and
data collection solutions, announced Friday that it has completed
certification as a ScanSource RFID Edge™ Solution Provider.
Upon completing the program, Wireless Network Solutions, Inc.
created its own RFID Quick Start kit, a bundled solution that
provides clients a fully operational RFID system in 48 hours or
less.
Major retailers like Wal-Mart, Best Buy and Target have adopted RFID
(radio frequency identification) to identify and track inventory,
and now require their suppliers to do so as well.
An RFID “smart label” contains an embedded tag generated by a RFID
printer. The latest tags, known as “Class 1 Gen 2,” standard, can
hold a large volume of data, company and database information. Once
decoded with a RFID Mobile Computer or Gate Reader, that information
can be instantly transmitted to a computer network. The technology
offers to streamline business processes including supply chain
management, inventory control, and security.
“I’ve found that people have heard a lot about RFID, but don’t know
where to begin. We developed this kit as a “proof of concept” so
they can become comfortable with the technology and identify
processes that would benefit from it,” Tom Eagan, CEO of Wireless
Network Solutions, said.
“Companies will discover that RFID complements their existing bar
code infrastructures. With our core competency in bar code scanning
and data collection, we are well-positioned to assist clients in
determine if RFID is right for them.”
The ScanSource RFID Edge program consists of 4 ½ days of intensive
hands-on training in a warehouse environment. Participants gain the
skills and knowledge necessary to build a comprehensive RFID
solution, which includes tags, labels, middleware, readers and
printers.
