Is RFID Scanners right for our company?

RFID Reader scanner (MC 9060G) by Motorola (formerly Symbol) RFID Portal System (DC600) by Motorola (formerly Symbol)

Are you looking to reduce the time and cost of manufacturing and tracking products? Would you like to boost sales by making it easier for customers to buy?

RFID (radio frequency identification) may be your answer. Major retailers like Wal-Mart, Best Buy and Target have adopted RFID scanners to identify and track inventory, and now require their suppliers to do so as well. Wireless Network Solutions, Inc. can help you get started quickly.

An RFID “smart label” contains an embedded tag that can hold large volume of product, company and database information. Once decoded with a RFID handheld or Gate Reader, that information can be instantly transmitted to a computer network. Designed to complement your existing bar code and data collection systems, RFID simplifies key business processes such as supply chain management, inventory control, PoS (point of sale) and security. Recent years have brought technology advances, falling prices and the emergence of EPC (electronic product code) standards found in the new Class 1 Gen 2 tags.

RFID advantages:

  • Provides a fast and reliable way to detect, identify, track, and manage a variety of items
  • Efficient tag reading that does not require line-of-sight
  • Endures harsh environments like heat, cold, rain and dirt
  • Dynamic and reusable (read/write capability)
  • Minimum maintenance

“Is RFID right for our company? What equipment will we need?”
The best way is to start with a pilot system that gives you hands on experience. Once you’re comfortable with the technology, you can quickly identify processes where RFID will produce a return on investment.

Our RFID Quick Start kit makes it easy. You get everything you need for to establish a “proof of concept” in your organization:

  • RFID middleware from EPC Solutions, Inc. to configure and manage the system.
  • RFID printer from Zebra to encode and generate RFID labels, either for “slap and ship” or high-volume manufacturing applications.
  • RFID Tags appropriate to item size and data requirements.
  • RFID Readers ranging from handheld, mobile computers from PSC. Motorola (formerly Symbol), and Intermec to stationary gate readers from Motorola (formerly Symbol), Alien, Intermec and more.

Here’s how we work with you:

  • Design: WNS helps you identify processes and key data capture points to determine the number and configuration of printers and readers. We’ll design labels according to compliance requirements, shipping scenarios and products being traded.
  • Create: Next, we’ll show you how to print EPC-compliant smart labels that include encoded tags, bar codes and human-readable text.
  • Validate: We’ll set-up and test equipment on site to ensure that you are always creating a “good label.” You can also generate reports in real time or export them for distribution.
  • Integrate: WNS can integrate your RFID solution into existing backend databases, ERP and other systems – without disruption.
